The Peoria Chapter of NOW hosted IL House Representative Lou Lang (D-Skokie) at August 25 membership meeting. Rep. Lang has kept the issue of ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution alive since its defeat in the Illinois Legislature in 1982. He discussed current strategy and how developments in Washington, D.C. impact this important piece of legislation.

The ERA coalition was a powerful force in the 1970’s and 80’s–and the value of Constitutional protection of women’s equality is no less important in these difficult economic times than it was then.
